Jackson Hole, WY

August 1, Tuesday:  Rock Springs, WY to Jackson Hole, WY

We left Rock Springs and drove north 200 miles to Jackson Hole.  Jackson Hole is actually the valley and the town itself is just named Jackson.  The drive going to Jackson was scenic, but the Grand Teton mountain peeks looming over Jackson are spectacular.  We’ve been disappointed in the lack of snow all over the Rockies and it is no different here, but we were told the extraordinarily warm spring melted the snow very early.  Jackson is very touristy, something like a cross between Estes Park and Sedona.  Our campground is pricey, but it is convenient to town.

After settling in at the campground, we drove around Jackson and stopped at the visitor’s center.  An author was telling stories about Sacagawea – what a fabulous story teller!  We picked up information about river rafting companies and a few other things.  They had an entire herd of stuffed elk in the lobby, plus eagles, bear and moose.  We returned to the RV for a nice steak dinner.
