Made the short 40-mile drive to Anchorage and found a nice campground – grass and trees.
Drove five miles into downtown Anchorage and stopped at the museum there and went to Earthquake Park. In 1964, a 9+ Richter scale earthquake hit this area and 40 homes in Anchorage dropped into the Inlet (40 people died – it’s miraculous it wasn’t more) and stores on the main street dropped 15 feet. Two coastal towns south of here were completely wiped out by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that was 40’ high.
Went out to dinner for my birthday, stopping first at a cocktail lounge that has panoramic views of the city and Cook’s Inlet – a nice birthday in Alaska.

Rainy, dreary day. Jack worked around the RV, did some laundry, watched some golf, while I worked. Nice, quiet day.

Jack did more RV stuff – had the tires rotated, the oil changed and had a part replaced for the furnace that was acting up. I had conference calls and meetings here in Anchorage. Busy day doing ordinary things – no sightseeing.
