Tok to Haines Junction
Drove 250 miles from Tok to Haines Junction. The road was even worse today – a long stretch of construction where the roadbed was torn up and it was just mud and gravel. We can barely see what color the car is it is so full of mud and dirt. We did see a grizzly bear by the side of the road and a baby moose.
Haines Junction to Haines
Finished up the last 150 miles down to Haines, which was an incredibly beautiful drive through mountains with snow in places and lakes right up to the base of the mountain.
One of the prettiest drives in
Stopped and took a short 1-mile hike up a ‘rock glacier’ that is essentially a giant rock field. We saw a mountain goat, but it was too high to get a picture.
Arrived in Haines and had to decide between a campground right on the bay (but all gravel, no grass or trees) and one on the north side of town with lots of grass and space between sites. We decided we had enough gravel and dirt, so elected to stay at the campground with grass. The weather is terrible – rainy and cool and is expected to stay this way for days, so not being on the bay is probably a good thing because it will be colder and windy. A bonus is this campground has high-speed internet access right at our site.
Rain, rain, rain. I worked in the morning and
Still raining. The roof started leaking again, so we had to cover it with plastic and anchor it down. We’ll duct tape it if it ever stops raining until we get home and can get the skylight replaced. I worked almost all day and
The sky is still threatening, but at least it isn’t raining. I worked again this morning while
