St. Louis

June 14, Wednesday: Mt. Vernon, IL to St. Louis, MO

We had a short 100 mile drive to get to the St. Louis area.  We arrived in our campground northeast of St. Louis by midmorning.  We ate lunch and played golf at Arlington golf course.  The course was wide open and fairly easy.  I shot my best 9 holes so far – 57 (ok, so I won’t start the women’s tour this year).  Jack started well with a number of pars, but pulled a “Joey Sindelar” (pro golfer from Elmira), by following his pars with double bogies.

After golf, we returned to the RV to clean up and then drove the half hour across the river into St. Louis to see the arch.  There was no one in line, so we went right up in the Arch’s strange elevator to the top (630 feet) where we enjoyed great views of downtown St. Louis.  After the Arch, we walked over to Laclides Landing (rejunvenated Mississippi River riverwalk area) for a nice al fresco dinner.
